MIAMI -- With a twinkle in his eyes, Karl-Anthony Towns was ready for the media.

"I'd like to start this postgame interview by saying, 'Great win by Kentucky. Coach (John) Calipari (is) the best in the business at what he does.

"We're just winning all over today -- T-Wolves win, Kentucky wins by 11."

Towns, a 6-foot-11 rookie center who played for Kentucky last season before becoming the NBA's first overall draft pick, had 14 points and 14 rebounds on Tuesday night to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a come-from-behind 103-91 win over the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.

But as happy as Towns was for his Timberwolves, he obviously still monitors the second-ranked Wildcats, who earned a 74-63 win over No. 5 Duke earlier Tuesday.

Minnesota's win was perhaps not as significant since it's a long NBA season. But it's still impressive that the T-Wolves have a 5-1 road record, which is second in the NBA to Golden State's 5-0 mark.

The Timberwolves, who were led by shooting guard Andrew Wiggins' game-high 24 points, trailed by nine points early in the fourth quarter.

But Minnesota (5-6) poured it on from there, outscoring the Heat 41-22 in the fourth quarter.

The Timberwolves, the only winless home team in the Western Conference, beat the Heat with their depth, outscoring Miami's bench, 54-13.

Guard Shabazz Muhammad (17 points) and forward Adreian Payne (16) led Minnesota's scoring off the bench.

Miami (6-4) had its three-game win streak snapped. The Heat committed 22 turnovers, which was 14 more than Minnesota. Miami also shot just 46.7 percent from the foul line (14 of 30).

The loss spoiled a great effort by Heat center Hassan Whiteside, who had a triple-double -- 22 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks in 34 minutes. It was his second career triple-double and just the 20th in franchise history.

"It was tremendous -- multiple efforts, all over the court," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of Whiteside. "The blocks he made were top of the box -- very few guys can make many of those plays."

Still, as good as Whiteside was, he made just two of nine free throws, and the Timberwolves started to put him on the line in the fourth quarter when they made their comeback. He made one of four free throws in the fourth quarter before Spoelstra removed him from the game.

"We'll see," Spoelstra said when asked if he will remove Whiteside from the game in future fourth quarters.

Minnesota coach Sam Mitchell said the decision to foul Whiteside was made during in-game strategy talks with his staff.

"I can't tell you the exact moment, but I met with one of my assistant coaches during a timeout," Mitchell said. "We didn't want to give them an opportunity to hit a 3-pointer. We didn't want to (Heat guard) Dwyane Wade to get going."

Heat point guard Goran Dragic added 16 points and nine assists. Miami got 20 points from forward Luol Deng and 11 rebounds from rookie forward Justise Winslow.

It was a big night for comebacks.

Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio, who had missed four games due to a hamstring injury, had seven points and three assists in his return.

"With Ricky back, our ball movement, everything was smooth," Wiggins said.

The Heat got two shooting guards back -- Wade, who scored 10 points, and Gerald Green, who added two points.

Wade said he is just trying to win.

"This is not a year where I'm worried about scoring," he said.

Miami got off to a good start, leading by as many as 10 points before settling for a 25-20 advantage after the first quarter. The Heat had a 14-4 edge in points in the paint.

The Heat kept pounding the ball inside in the second quarter with a 20-10 paint-points superiority. That allowed the Heat to play to a draw in the quarter, taking a 50-45 lead into halftime.

Miami extended its lead to 69-62 after three quarters but could not hold on in the fourth.

Minnesota has lost 16 straight games without Rubio, but the Timberwolves are much better when he plays.

"Good," Rubio said when asked how he feels after his hamstring injury. "I'm not 100 percent, but I need to be out there helping the team."
