Hawks 99, Heat 86: DeMarre Carroll scored 19 of his 24 points in the first half as host Atlanta clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Paul Millsap had 21 points and nine rebounds while Al Horford scored 15 for the Hawks, who gained the No. 1 spot for the first time since 1993-94. Dennis Schroder stepped into the starting lineup in place of All-Star Jeff Teague (ankle) to produce 12 points and a career-high 11 assists as Atlanta improved to 31-5 at home.

Luol Deng scored 17 points and both Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers had 13 for Miami, which fell three games behind sixth-place Milwaukee in the East and sits one game ahead of eighth-place Boston. Henry Walker made four 3-pointers en route to 12 points as the Heat fell for the third time in four games.

Carroll had 10 points in the first quarter to help Atlanta race to a 27-20 lead and he buried a 3-pointer in the final minute of the first half as the Hawks went into the locker room up 55-37. Five different Hawks scored in an 11-0 burst that left the hosts with an 81-55 advantage late in the third.

The Heat scored nine points in the final minute of the quarter to get within 22 and had a 7-0 burst to cut their deficit to 96-84 with just under six minutes left. Kyle Korver hit a 3-pointer moments later for Atlanta and the teams combined for just two points in the final four-plus minutes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Heat C Hassan Whiteside (hand) and PF Chris Andersen (calf) both sat for the second straight game. ... The Hawks swept the season series for the first time since 1990-91. ... Miami shot 39 percent, compared to 51.4 percent for Atlanta.
