Wizards 110, Hornets 107 (2OT): John Wall scored 32 points, including 10 in overtime, as host Washington snapped a four-game losing streak.
Wall shot 12-of-30 and added nine rebounds and six assists for the Wizards, who outscored the Hornets 5-1 in the final 11.8 seconds of regulation to force overtime. Drew Gooden scored 15 points and added a season-high 17 rebounds and Bradley Beal chipped in 16 points for Washington.
Al Jefferson had 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets, who have lost eight of 10 and dropped 1 1/2 games back of Boston for the eighth spot in the East. Mo Williams had 26 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds but missed potential game-winners in regulation and the first overtime, and a potential game-tying 3-pointer in the second extra period.
Rasual Butler drained a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in regulation and Wall canned a pull-up jumper with 3.9 seconds to go after Jeff Taylor split two free throws as Washington pulled even and forced overtime after Williams missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer. After Williams missed another jumper at the end of the first overtime, Wall scored seven of nine Washington points in the second extra session, including a pull-up jumper with 9.9 seconds left for a three-point edge, and the Wizards withstood missed 3-pointers by Williams and Jefferson to prevail.
Jefferson scored four points and Williams drained a 3-pointer that gave Charlotte a 91-88 edge with three minutes left in regulation after the Hornets scored just three points in the first seven minutes of the quarter to fall behind by six. Washington got within 93-91, but Wall committed his sixth turnover on a bad pass with 21 seconds left and Kemba Walker drained two free throws with 14 seconds left to set up the heroics for Butler and Wall.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jefferson took over in the third with 11 points in the first seven minutes to turn a five-point deficit into a 72-65 edge, and Charlotte led by four entering the final stanza. ... Charlotte, which is vying with Brooklyn, Boston and Indiana for a playoff spot, now goes home for three, including a contest with Boston, and the Hornets also play Indiana and Miami down the stretch. … The Wizards were 11-of-12 from the stripe in the first half and 2-of-10 thereafter.
