Nets 91, Hornets 88: Brook Lopez continued his stellar play with 34 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks as the visiting Nets gained ground in the East.

Alan Anderson scored 13 points and Deron Williams hit four big free throws down the stretch and finished with 14 assists for the Nets, who moved within one-half game of Boston and Indiana for the eighth playoff spot in the East and tied with Charlotte. Lopez reached 30 points for the third time in four games after scoring 30 just once in his first 56 games and helped Brooklyn battle back from a 10-point second half deficit.

Al Jefferson had 23 points on 11-of-19 shooting and 10 rebounds for the Hornets, who were coming off a 1-4 road trip and have lost seven of nine overall. Gerald Henderson also chipped in 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting but the rest of the club shot a combined 15-of-53.

Trailing by eight points four minutes into the fourth, the Hornets pulled even 5 1/2 minutes later after a hoop from Jefferson and two free throws by Mo Williams. After each team scored on three consecutive possessions, Lopez hit a jumper from just inside the free-throw line for an 87-85 lead with 23 seconds left before preserving the victory after the Nets turned the ball over with 3.2 seconds left by recording a steal on the in-bounds play.

The Hornets got 10 points from Jefferson and eight from Henderson in building a 10-point lead before settling for a 46-42 lead at the break. Lopez, who led the Nets with 12 points in the first half, took over in the third, scoring 12 on 6-of-9 shooting as Brooklyn took a 68-64 lead into the fourth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Nets play nine of their last 12 games at home but are the only team in the NBA with more road wins (18) than home (12). … Nets F Thaddeus Young left the game in the third quarter with a left knee injury. … Lopez has scored 25 or more points in four straight games for the first time since 2011.
