Nets 122, Timberwolves 106:
Joe Johnson led the way with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting as visiting Brooklyn sprinted past Minnesota.

Thaddeus Young, who was traded to the Nets from the Timberwolves at the deadline, added 19 points in his return while Brook Lopez contributed 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting and eight rebounds. Brian Bogdanovic led the reserves with 21 points as Brooklyn shot 57.8 percent from the field.

Kevin Martin collected 23 points and six assists for Minnesota, which has dropped five in a row. Zach LaVine added 20 points and Chase Budinger scored 18 off the bench for the Timberwolves, who gave up an NBA season- high 78 points in the paint.

Minnesota took a 51-50 lead on Adreian Payne’s basket with 4:37 left in the second quarter before the Nets ended the half with a 17-4 burst to take a 12-point cushion into the locker room. Johnson scored five during a 6-0 burst that pushed the lead to 80-62 with 6:58 left in the third, and the lead was 19 points heading into the fourth.

Justin Hamilton’s three-point play drew the Timberwolves within 106-92 with 7:07 left but Bogdanovic’s dunk just over two minutes later made it a 21-point cushion for Brooklyn. Jarrett Jack’s floater with 3:31 left brought the Nets to a franchise-record 76 points in the paint, tying an NBA season-high.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The Dallas Mavericks reached the previous NBA season high of 76 points in the paint on Nov. 15, also against Minnesota. … The Nets reached 100 points in Minnesota for the first time since November 1993. … The Timberwolves dressed eight healthy players, with Kevin Garnett (knee), Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and Ricky Rubio (ankle) the three starters out of the lineup.
