Trail Blazers 105, Rockets 100: LaMarcus Aldridge had 26 points and 14 rebounds as Portland moved into a tie for third in the Western Conference standings with visiting Houston.

Nicolas Batum added 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Robin Lopez had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Trail Blazers. Damian Lillard finished with 14 points and eight assists and Meyers Leonard led the reserves with eight, including a pair of 3-pointers as Portland surged ahead for good with a run in the third quarter.

Corey Brewer scored 23 points for the Rockets, including their final 17 points. James Harden finished with 18 points, six assists and three steals and Terrence Jones contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds for Houston, which came in on a two-game winning streak

Aldridge picked up his second, third and fourth fouls in first 1:28 of second half and went to the bench with Portland leading 54-53, and the Rockets took advantage by scoring the next eight points. The Trail Blazers regrouped and sank 3-pointers on three straight possessions, including two by Leonard, to move back ahead by a point with 4:43 left in the third.

Portland continued the surge and increased the lead to 80-74 entering the fourth and kept the Rockets from getting any closer than five for the next 10 minutes, even after Aldridge was called for his fourth offensive charge and fifth foul of the game with 6:03 left. Brewer’s run pulled the Rockets within one with 15.3 seconds left, but he missed a potential game-tying 3 with three seconds on the clock.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Harden came in averaging 44.5 points in two previous games against Portland this season. … Houston was outrebounded 60-40 and missed 10 free throws. … Portland SG Arron Afflalo came in shooting 31.3 percent in five games this month and he finished 2-for-13, but made four key free throws in the final minute.
