Spurs 90, Mavericks 85:
Tim Duncan scored 27 points and keyed a dominant stretch run as host San Antonio won the opener of its best-of-seven series with Dallas.

Tony Parker scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half and Manu Ginobili chipped in 17 off the bench for the Spurs, who have won 16 straight at home going back to the regular season. Kawhi Leonard added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Tiago Splitter grabbed a game-high 11 boards for San Antonio.

Devin Harris had 10 of his 19 points in the second quarter for the Mavericks, who received just 11 points on 4-of-14 shooting from both Dirk Nowitzki and Monta Ellis. Brandan Wright also had 11 points and Vince Carter contributed 10 as Dallas dropped its 10th straight meeting overall with its in-state rival.

Nowitzki scored twice in a 6-0 run early in the fourth and Wright's three-point play with 7:45 to play put Dallas up 81-71, but the Mavericks would miss their next 12 shots and Duncan produced back-to-back baskets to spark a 15-0 surge. Parker's layup with 3:25 left gave the Spurs the lead for good and Dallas could produce only two free throws by Wright and a meaningless layup at the buzzer by Harris in a dismal stretch run.

The Mavericks were 5-of-20 from the field and made just one free throw in falling behind 21-12 after one quarter, but scored the first 12 points of the second - a run capped by back-to-back 3-pointers by Harris - to grab their first lead. Harris also scored just before the halftime buzzer to give Dallas a 44-43 advantage and there were five lead changes and four ties in the third quarter, including a 65-65 deadlock to end it

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Duncan left late in the third after hurting his troublesome left knee in a collision with Ellis but returned with 9:26 left in the game. ... The Spurs had a 48-40 edge on the boards and a 56-32 advantage in points in the paint. ... Game 2 is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday in San Antonio.
