The Los Angeles Clippers stopped a pair of long winning streaks by the Miami Heat and continued their strong play as Blake Griffin collected 24 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in a 111-105 home victory Wednesday.
The Heat had won nine straight games overall and 13 in a row on the road. The road streak was the fifth-longest in NBA history and three off the record set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.
Eric Gordon scored 26 points and Baron Davis chipped in 20 and nine assists for Los Angeles, which has won three straight and eight of 11.
The Clippers made 13-of-14 shots during one stretch of the first quarter, jumping out to a 44-26 lead. The margin grew to as much as 55-34 early in the second quarter before Miami trimmed the deficit to 10 points at the half.
A 10-0 run in the fourth quarter capped by a 3-pointer from LeBron James pulled the Heat within 94-92 with 6:33 left. James and Dwyane Wade were both shaken up on that play, although they stayed in the game.
Gordon and Mario Chalmers traded 3-pointers before Los Angeles began to pull away again, getting six points from Davis down the stretch to close it out.
Wade scored 31 points and James added 27 for the Heat, who had not lost on the road since Nov. 27 at Dallas.
