J.D. Martinez went 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs, including a tiebreaking two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Boston Red Sox rallied to defeat the visiting Seattle Mariners 14-10 Friday night at Fenway Park.

The Mariners blew a five-run lead for the second time in three games to lose their season-high fifth straight. They also wasted a big night from designated hitter Nelson Cruz, who went 4-for-5 with two homers and seven RBIs.

Cruz, who now has 20 home runs this season, hit three-run blasts in the first and fourth innings. Ryon Healy added a solo shot, his 14th, for Seattle.

After the Mariners took a 4-0 lead on first-inning homers by Cruz and Healy, the Red Sox responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Martinez, Brock Holt and Christian Vazquez each had run-scoring doubles.

Seattle scored twice more in the second, the second coming on a line-drive single to center field by Cruz, for a 6-5 advantage.

The Mariners tacked on four more runs in the fourth, with Cruz hitting his second homer, to make it 10-5.

The Red Sox scored once in the fifth, pulled within 10-9 in the sixth thanks in part to Martinez's two-run shot to center field, his 23rd, and took the lead with five runs in the seventh.

Red Sox relievers Brian Johnson, Matt Barnes (1-2), Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Seattle's Juan Nicasio (1-4) was tagged for five runs in 1/3 of an inning in the seventh.

Mariners left-hander Wade LeBlanc and Red Sox right-hander Steven Wright matched up for the second time in a week, but this went nothing like the first, a 1-0 Seattle victory last Saturday at Safeco Field.

Wright, a knuckleballer, allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings, including three home runs. LeBlanc was knocked out after 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits.
