CHICAGO - Manager Robin Ventura has frequently praised his Chicago White Sox for their tenacity during this roller-coaster season.

But the persistence may have never been more evident than it was over the past two days when the White Sox reeled off three straight walk-off wins.

The latest nipped the team with baseball's best record.

Tyler Saladino delivered a walk-off single with one out in the ninth inning to lift the White Sox to a 5-4 win over their crosstown rival Chicago Cubs on Monday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

The three straight walk-off wins mark the first time since 1962 the White Sox have strung together such a streak.

Saladino's game-winner off of newly acquired Cubs reliever Mike Montgomery scored J.B. Shuck, who led off the inning with a single for the White Sox (49-50). On Sunday, the White Sox finished off a rain-suspended win over the Tigers with an Adam Eaton walk-off RBI single before rallying again in the bottom of the ninth on a Melky Cabrera run-scoring single to beat the Tigers again in the second game of the day.

Saladino filled the role of hero Monday night against the Cubs.

"It was just one of those moments when you're trying to get a job done," Saladino said.

Shuck advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt before Saladino came through on an 0-2 pitch with the single up the middle that center fielder Matt Szczur failed to field cleanly.

The Cubs (59-39) rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to tie the game at 4-4. Javier Baez led off the inning with a double and then stole third before he scored when Dexter Fowler lined an RBI single off first baseman Jose Abreu's glove. Fowler advanced to third on a single by Kris Bryant, who was thrown out by left fielder Cabrera while attempting to advance to second on the hit. (Cabrera also robbed Bryant of a home run with a leaping catch at the left-field wall in the first inning.)

Anthony Rizzo then delivered an RBI single to tie the game before Willson Contreras reached on a single to give the Cubs runners on first and second with two outs. But with the go-ahead run on second, White Sox reliever Dan Jennings (1-0) struck out Jason Heyward to end the inning.

"In the past he's had a few really tough at-bats, and that's just another one," Jennings said. "I feel like you got to move it in and out and you can't be too predictable with these guys. That's all I was trying to do."

After Jennings kept the Cubs from taking the lead, the White Sox responded with their fifth walk-off win.

"They get a run in the ninth inning -- that just happens," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. "But I was really pleased with our effort."

Todd Frazier's three-run homer, his 29th of the season, off of Cubs' ace Jake Arrieta with two outs in the sixth inning gave the White Sox a 4-0 lead after White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez had protected a one-run lead from the third inning on.

It proved big.

"Jake was really good except for the one pitch," Maddon said. "(The) three-run homer definitely did hurt us right there."

The Cubs trimmed the deficit to two runs in the seventh inning when Miguel Montero doubled and Baez followed with a two-run home run off of Gonzalez. But after the Cubs rallied to tie the game in the ninth, the White Sox responded with one of their own to continue their streak of walk-off victories.

"We sure would like to win by five or six, but with the way we've been going, we'll take any win we can get," Frazier said.

Added Ventura: "We've been all over the plate, but these guys are resilient. They fight back."
