Phillies 7, Padres 5 (13): Chase Utley and Domonic Brown scored when Logan Forsythe made two errors on the same play in the 13th inning as visiting Philadelphia took the rubber match of the three-game series.
The Phillies rallied late to erase a 5-2 deficit and went ahead in the 13th thanks to a pair of miscues by Forsythe. With two on and two out, Ben Revere hit a grounder off Tommy Layne (0-2) that the second baseman muffed, allowing Utley to race home from second. In his haste to get the out at the plate, Forsythe made an errant throw that permitted Brown to cross the plate safely.
Joe Savery (1-0) tossed a perfect 12th inning and Jonathan Papelbon worked around a single in the 13th to notch his 15th save of the season and second in six opportunities. Delmon Young hit a game-tying, two-run homer and Carlos Ruiz recorded two hits and an RBI for Philadelphia, which is 2-1 on its 10-game road trip.
Chris Denorfia belted a two-run shot and Forsythe registered two hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Padres, who completed a 3-4 homestand and have lost six of nine overall.
San Diego overcame a 2-0 deficit, scoring twice in the third before Denorfia belted a two-run homer in the fifth and Kyle Blanks delivered an RBI double an inning later. The Phillies battled back as pinch-hitter Kevin Frandsen hit a run-scoring single in the seventh and Young blasted a two-run shot off Luke Gregerson in the following frame.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies RHP J.C. Ramirez worked two perfect innings and has retired all nine batters he has faced in the major leagues. ... Young's homer prevented Philadelphia LHP Cole Hamels from suffering his career-worst 12th loss of the year. Hamels yielded five runs - four earned - and seven hits in six innings. ... Padres starter Robbie Erlin lasted 6 1/3 frames, allowing three runs - two earned - and four hits with seven strikeouts.
